A year ago or so, I was sitting at a Starbucks talking with IronJoeGalka over Facebook. I was kicking around a website idea for the newly discovered gem of Dust Warfare. I tried a few names and none seemed to fit. All the while, I was telling IronJoe that I was going to do a blog, since I had expressed to him a want to see the game grow. Recently, at Hit Point Hobbies (our LGS), I had been showing folks how to play with an old Core Set and the rulebook, usually taking the role of the Allies and helping people learn with the Axis. So, I was hellbent on making a website for the game that I had just fallen head-over-heels for!

Pretty sure “Dust-War” was more impulse than planned, though it worked since it was a name not used already and sounded pretty good – and lets be real, it was close to the name of the game, which is a huge plus. IronJoe let impulsivity get the better of him and he purchased the domain and threw up the site. It was hard not to be grateful, as I didn’t know a single thing about making a website. With him in charge of the site and me cranking out content, we figured it would be fun.

It wasn’t long, though, that we assembled the players who had been learning and coaxed them into writing content. Thus, Dust-War.com came into being. It wasn’t long before we set up a Facebook account, some rather active forums, got a sponsor and started watching our views start climbing.

A year of Dust Warfare content!

Here I sit, a year later, looking back on all we have done. People have come and gone (mostly gone) from our writing crew. Generally, it was just myself and IronJoe, with the Grot doing some pieces now and again. The content was steady and our audience grew. I churned out Campaign Book: Headway in a tearing hurry, while Joe and Grot made sure our reader’s had some choice articles on the SSU and Axis, respectively. All the while, Joe made sure our site and host were kept alive and kicking. HerrKillam, when he returned, became our liaison with the LGS and started running our tournaments.

The Force Builder (courtesy of Maine), the Warfare Cards (courtesy of Rodney & KevinBakon) were set up on our site, as well as our recent delving into the YouTube domain. Through some luck and schmoozing, I managed to get articles on Bell of Lost Souls and FFG’s main site. Again, we saw growth and it was very rewarding.

All of this has been somewhat tempered by the passing of IronJoeGalka – a tragic blow to us here, as he was more than just our admin and SSU writer, but also a friend to all of us at Dust-War.com. We lost a comrade – as words tend to fall short, I leave it at that.

However, with all the good and the bad, Dust-War.com will press on as best as we can. We will continue to be here with content for all things Dust Warfare.

Welcome folks! This week, I have a tiny news piece as I work out some kinks with my planned video reviews of the new Allied Pelican and Support Walker. Until I get those posted, I wanted to touch on a big announcement that rolled out Tuesday from Tabletop Gaming News Network. Apparently, with Fantasy Flight on its way out and Battlefront coming in, the head honchos at Dust Studios are putting the power in the hands of the fans when it comes to Organized Play.

So by now, the news has spread to every nook and cranny of our corner of the tabletop gaming universe: Dust: Warfare is moving to Battlefront for distribution, with Paolo choosing to go with the Flames of War producers instead of Fantasy Flight Games.

Change is not something that is embraced, usually, by the tabletop world as evidenced by the wailing and gnashing of teeth when new editions of old favorites come around.
